100 Days of Prayer

One Thing

What "one thing" tops our agenda today? Crazy lives, tight schedules and endless deadlines can suffocate us and dampen God's plan. We forget His first and foremost desire is to be with us and we with Him!

What's easy to forfeit is the "one thing"...that divine opportunity of selfless devotion that can ensure His blessings of success! (Matthew 6:33) The Son of Man never missed His appointment with the Father, knowing He "could do nothing on His own imitative." (John 5:30) We are not like Him. Acting independently at our own discretion is second nature to us.

Listen to the words of Jesus: "You are worried and bothered about so many things, but only a few things are necessary, really only one." (Luke 10:41-42) That "one thing" is not just handing God a to-do list. It is not heartlessly going through the motions. It is not "doing" prayer. It is an intentional and continual devotion to our Lord. It is a two-way love language...poouring out our heart to the living Savior and hanging onto His every word. It is a Creator initiated and designed relationship. It is a must on any and every given day.

Omitting prayer results in senseless activity and self-reliance, something Jesus never did. No wonder when our hectic and prayless activities slow, we feel empty, having omitted the "one thing."

Loved of God, go ahead and grab the best dish on the table! Like Mary (Luke 10:42) get down at His feet and enjoy and digest His word to your heart's content. Make time for the "one thing", the only thing, that can satisfy your hungry heart!
