This past weekend we celebrated Father’s Day – which always causes me to pause and reflect on what my roles are to my family. One of which is leaving a Godly legacy, as mandated in Deuteronomy 6:6-9 “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” (ESV)
Make no mistake, we are going to pass something on to our children and grandchildren – whether we realize this or not. This Godly legacy far surpasses any amount of money or property. Be deliberate and make a choice to lead your family according to God's word and make it a priority to infuse that with every choice you make.
Have you ever heard the phrase, “more is caught than taught”? Teach them and demonstrate the example of what you want your family to be. Engage them at every opportunity. Ensure that your choices align with God’s word by reading and praying together.
Whether you are just starting out or have been at this a while, now is a perfect time. God has entrusted these family members to you.
