Gospel

Today I asked someone, “What is the Gospel? When you hear the word ‘Gospel’, what does it mean to you? If you were asked that question, what would you say?

Some words are so familiar; we may think we know them, we hear them a lot, but do we truly KNOW them?

I, find there are many words like this. Words we hear often, but we don't really know well. When I stumble over truly understanding these words, I wonder, could I teach this concept to a friend, a stranger? Can I share it with others? Words like inflation, debt, grace and faith come to mind… and most definitely, the Gospel.

Let me tell you the greatest news you'll ever hear—the Gospel.

It begins with God.

God is the holy, loving Creator—not just of the earth, but of everything that exists. Before time began, He was there. He created the universe for His glory, and He created you in His image to know Him, love Him, and enjoy life with Him forever. That was always His design.

But something happened.

Sin entered the world. When Adam and Eve chose to disobey God, sin broke the perfect relationship they had with Him. And ever since then, every one of us has sinned too. Because God is perfectly holy and just, our sin separates us from Him. We stand guilty before Him, under His righteous judgment, unable to fix what we've broken on our own.

But here's the amazing part...

This didn't catch God by surprise. Before we ever sinned, God already had a plan. Out of His incredible love and grace, He made a way to rescue us and restore the relationship that sin had destroyed.

He sent His Son, Jesus.

Jesus is fully God and fully man. He lived the perfect life that we never could, and then He willingly took the punishment that our sins deserved. He died on the cross in our place, was buried, and three days later He rose from the grave, defeating sin and death once and for all.

So what does Jesus save us from?

He saves us from eternal separation from God. He saves us from the condemnation and wrath that our sins deserve. And He saves us so that we can be forgiven, reconciled to God, and enjoy the relationship with Him that we were created for in the first place.

This gift isn't something we earn. It's God's gift of grace, received by faith.

When we trust in Jesus, the Holy Spirit gives us new life. He comes to live within us, opening our eyes to God's truth, changing our hearts, and making us more and more like Jesus every day.

And we're not meant to follow Jesus alone. God places us into His Church—a family of believers who worship Him together, encourage one another, grow in His Word, and share this same good news with the world.

One day, Jesus will return just as He promised.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and to make all things new. Every person will stand before Him.

That means God is calling each one of us to respond.

Throughout Scripture, God commands everyone, everywhere, to repent—to turn from sin and turn to Him—and to receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith. His invitation is extended to all, but each person is responsible for how they respond.

One day, every one of us will stand before Jesus.

Those who have trusted in Him will enjoy His presence forever in the new heavens and the new earth, where sin, sorrow, and death are gone forever. Those who reject Him will remain under His righteous judgment and will be eternally separated from His goodness, experiencing the just punishment for sin.

Today is the day to receive God's gift of grace.

If you have never placed your faith in Jesus Christ, turn to Him. Trust in His death, burial, and resurrection as the only sufficient payment for your sin, and receive the forgiveness, new life, and eternal hope that He freely offers.

When you truly grasp who God is, how deeply He loves you, and what Jesus has done for you, it changes everything. You don't follow Him because you're trying to earn His love—you follow Him because you've already received it. You love Him because He first loved you. And by the power of the Holy Spirit, you spend the rest of your life growing to look more like Christ, serving Him with joy, loving His Church, and helping others come to know Him too.

That is the Gospel—the greatest news the world has ever heard.
